Sunday Ratings: Desperate Housewives Has Welcome Return

Despite being down approximately 5% since last year, the retooled Desperate Housewives was easily last night’s best draw. Unfortunately, the show couldn’t fight off the Bears and Eagles alone. NBC - with the help of Sunday Night Football - was once again tops in both categories last night.

MONDAY (9/22)

Season premieres: The Big Bang Theory, Boston Legal, CSI: Miami, Dancing with the Stars, Heroes, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, Worst Week

  • Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm):  Special two-hour premiere. “The season begins with 13 new celebrities.” Any time a reference is made about ’s butt or cut foot, take a drink.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm): “Charlie runs into an ex-girlfriend whose son bears a striking resemblance to him.” As if Charlie Sheen really needed to get involved in another custody issue.
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  Special two-hour premiere. “Suresh makes an important breakthrough.” It’s taken him two seasons to realize how boring his character is.
  • Worst Week (CBS, 9:30pm):  Series premiere. “Disaster-prone Sam Briggs, and his girlfriend, Melanie, visit her parents – who don’t like Sam – to tell them that they are engaged and expecting a child.” It’s always good to get the disappointing news out all at once.

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Vantage Point‘s Sigourney Weaver will be taking a temporary break from the big screen for a quick stop on ABC.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who recently lent her voice to WALL·E, will offer up her professional counseling advice to a troubled .

This isn’t the first star scheduled for a cameo on the sophomore series this year. Katie Holmes will also be be guesting as non-profit lawyer.

Eli Stone will return on Tuesday (a new day), October 14.

2008 Primetime Emmy Nominations

60th primetime emmy awards

Bright and early this morning, Kristin Chenoweth and Neil Patrick Harris announced the nominations for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards.

This year, we saw many first-timers named, a long list of cable acknowledgements (for pay and basic channels) and several 6-way races.

Topping the noms for drama programs was newcomer ; NBC’s lead all comedy programs. In total, HBO was the most-nominated network while ABC came in second.

This year’s ceremony will be held on Sept. 21 on ABC.
